Thanks to the efforts of 12-year old Otso Riiali the brown bears in the Korkeasaari Zoo in the Finnish capital Helsinki received a surprise. The boy donated 200 euro to give the bears new climbing poles. Otso claims he saved the money by selling 400 bottles of cranberryjuice, with the help of his grandmother. "It was hard work and my back hurt from reaching down all the time".

A brief visit to the bear den several years ago, inspired young Otso to give the animals an extra outlet. The bears seemd a bit sluggish and depressed. The zoo gladly accepted the gift. Bear caretaker Tiina Koivu did add that the bears were sluggish because of the hot summer weather.

In a couple of weeks the bears in the zoo will start their hibernation.
